Meeting the
Speech and Language Needs of Our Community Since 2003 |
|
|
|
|
|
Meet Allison |
|
|
|
Allison Harrington,
CCC-SLP, is the owner and
president of Speech Solutions, Inc. She started Speech Solutions
in 2003 with 6 very loyal and patient employees. Her home in
Rowland, NC was the main office. In 2004 she moved the main
office to Lumberton and added 3 employees. Since then she has
expanded her business to surrounding counties and has a second office in
Laurinburg, NC, a
third office in Whiteville, NC, and a fourth office in Shallotte, NC.
Each office has its own office manager and each office with its amazing
staff is present in the community. Allison is a former Robeson
County Chamber of Commerce Board Member. She is currently the Executive Chairperson for the LRDA Policy Committee.
Since 2012, Allison has established the Allison Harrington Endowed
Scholarship at UNCP to provide support for a resident of Robeson or
Brunswick County who meets strong academic criteria and will attend UNCP.
She became a member of the Chancellor's Club and has helped sponsor the
First Lady, Sarah Carter's, Garden Party and many other programs across
campus. In 2014, Allison was given the UNCP Outstanding Alumnus
Award. This was an honor for her because she has loved giving back
to the UNCP community just as they gave to her when she was in school
there. She is a member of the UNCP Lifetime Giving Society. During 2014, Allison was also appointed by Governor McCrory
to sit on the North Carolina Speech and Language Pathologists and
Audiologists Board of Examiners. She will serve until 2017.
In January 2015 Allison received the 2015 Small Business Award given by
the Lumberton Area Chamber of Commerce and in March 2015, she was
elected to serve as a member on the Lumberton Local Advisory Board by
the First Bank Board of Directors. Allison states
that it has been a joy to watch the company grow into what it is
today. She is proud of all the ladies that are a part of Speech
Solutions today. The employees consider themselves family and work
together to make sure that Speech Solutions is meeting the speech and
language needs of their community.
Before becoming a speech language pathologist,
Allison taught middle school in Robeson County for 4 1/2 years. She
earned her masters degree while teaching and traveling to Durham at
night. Allison admits teaching school was fun and rewarding but a tough job.
She still keeps in touch with her students she taught. She has
fond memories of the times she spent at Union Elementary and is thankful
for the administration there during her time in graduate school. She
earned her masters degree while teaching and traveling to Durham at
night. She graduated in December 1999 and January 2000 started her career as a
speech therapist. Her career has
been beyond all expectation. She states it is a career that is very
rewarding and challenging. It is extremely satisfying to watch your
clients grow and master their goals. She loves the fact that she can
work with a 3 year old in the morning and an adult in the afternoon -
both with such different deficits.
Allison grew up in Rowland, NC and was a
member of the First Baptist Church of Rowland. She is the daughter
of Ann and Frank Harrington. Allison considers her parents mentors
and is proud of the way she was raised. |
She currently lives in Lumberton where
she is now a member of Lumberton First Baptist Church. She is
active in the community. She is a sustainer in the Lumberton
Junior Service League. She has
worked with Robeson Road Runners as treasurer and is a continuous
supporter of Relay for Life. She has served as a committee
chairperson for a local boy scout troop and currently serves as a BSA
committee member. She is an active member of the
NC Speech Language Hearing Association (NCSHLA) and is certified by the
American Speech Hearing and Language Association (ASHA). She is
also a member of the National Council of State Boards of Examiners.
Seth, her son, is her pride and
joy. He actually designed the company's t-shirts. He
attends Lumberton Senior High School. In March 2015, Seth was awarded his Eagle Scout by Boy Scouts of
America. This is a great accomplishment for Seth. Seth has
been a great motivator in Allison's decisions. Aside from Seth and
their two dogs, Pauline and Wishart, Allison enjoys traveling, fishing
and spending time with friends and family. Art,
history and pottery
are some of her interests.
Allison works with clients in all areas served in North and South
Carolina and has an active license in both states. She holds a B.S. in Elementary Education from the University of
North Carolina at Pembroke and a M.Ed. in Communication Disorders - North
Carolina Central University.
